'As with most FarmSmith projects, some things are going well and some not so much. Just as I was hitting my stride two nights ago and thinking to myself, "hey, I could rip out this not so lovely bathroom and put in something...um... better", I heard a"POP" and then came eery silence. Air conditioners are such temperamental machines. I can't seem to Google my way out of this literal hot mess as of yet. (I'll keep you posted) but needless to say that the bathroom makeover has been postponed.
In the kitchen: The kitchen was missing some of the tambour cabinet doors. Because of our two week time frame for the remodel, I installed the curtain rod and cut down a cafe curtain to the shorter length to work in its place. I used the coordinating valance above the sink (rolled around the roller shade pole and draped at corners to take care of extra length). I painted the refrigerator with chalk board paint, added in lots of little hooks, baskets, liners and IKEA "stuff". Carson was commissioned for the original Airstream artwork on the wall. He's pricey but excellent at what he does with aluminum foil, markers and cork.

Bedroom confessions. Not as good as it might sound at first but a confession nonetheless. When I asked the kids and Greg what they wanted in the Airstream they all said, "BEAN BAGS!" Really? Big, bulky, awkward, not cute, bean bags??? I spent so much time (as you will soon see) purchasing dual purpose, compact furniture (read the OPPOSITE of bean bags). But after I let out with my indignant (read snotty) "ummm, yeh, NO", I felt, well... snotty, and like a momma camping bummer. It's a tin trailer for goodness sake. S0, I bought a bunch of big, bulky, awkward not cute bean bags... so there.
Ollie has been begging to turn her room into an aquarium ever since her 7th birthday party where the theme was mermaids and we turned the house into a giant aquarium. The bunk room becoming the aquarium was our compromise this summer. The back of the wall oven sticks out rather awkwardly into the room, so we painted it to look like a fish tank. The walls and ceiling got a light, gray/blue coat of paint, the under the bed storage bins were painted aqua or replaced with new ones from IKEA. I used a roll of IKEA window fabric to make the storage bin covers under the beds. I have to admit (it kinda hurts me to do this) that when the bean bags are on the beds, it makes for a pretty cozy place to chill. The bean bags are the BIG JOE ones that can be arranged numerous ways, taken outside (wiped down with my magic wipes when brought back in ;). They also make good extra beds for kiddos.... which brings me to the admission that the bean bags are saving my behind on our upcoming maiden voyage. I received an email this morning informing me that our sleeper sofa for the front living space is on back order..... WHAT?!?!? It was set to arrive today. Saved by those big, awkward, not cute bags...
