"First you will sit down at a little distance from me--like that--in the grass. I shall look at you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the source of misunderstandings. But you will sit a little closer to me, every day . . ."
-From The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

We are 37 days away from picking up our Ukrainian guests at the Atlanta airport.  We are equally excited and anxious and none more so than our 7 year old contemplative, Ollie.  She is super excited about having another 7 year old girl in the house, especially one who loves to do art projects, but for the past several days she has been concerned (more like panicked) about the language barrier.  "Mom, what if we can't understand each other?"  "Mom, what if she doesn't understand any of the games we play?"  "Mom, what if we can't say ANYTHING to each other for the WHOLE month and a half she is here?"  "MOM!!!!!"
So, today we spent some time discussing this  quote from The Little Prince and how we can apply it to our time with our guests from Ukraine.  We came up with some very practical ways Ollie can invite "M" to do various activities without saying a single word.  We also began studying the country of Ukraine, the people, and their culture.  The kids and I will continue to work on our Ukrainian language skills but have decided that our main focus will be on preparing our hearts for the arrival of our special guests.  Every day we hope to  'sit a little closer...".  We truly appreciate your prayers for our time with these kids this Christmas.  дякую! (thank you!)
