It's been quite a year for my family. We have experienced love, loss, joy and pain... Life.
Recently, we added a few mini creatures to our family. After work yesterday, the beautiful weather called to me, and, despite a long list of farm chores begging for my attention, I found myself sitting in the field with Billy Bob Joe (the mini goat), Titan (the mini horse) and Chuck (the world's largest puppy). We make a motley crew.
For the past year and a half, I have chosen a weekly scripture for meditation. Last week, my verse was Psalm 46:10 "“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" This week, I have chosen to sit with Proverbs 4:23 which says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
I visit these two verses often, with each meditation taking me on an Alice In Wonderland worthy bunny chase of fascinating information. Like most of us in this busy world, I am always seeking wisdom on how to be still and present (I am completely challenged in this area)... And I ALWAYS want to know things! More than any other subject in the world, I am fascinated by the mystery of our human hearts. But that is enough back story! Let's return to the horse pen, shall we?
Very simply and just like that {insert finger snap here}, sitting quietly surrounded by my furry friends, I knew that I knew that I knew something new: Being still does not mean being stagnant, and guarding your heart absolutely does not mean closing it.
I have and will forever be a seeker of truth. I am learning that my own thoughts and judgements are often not very honest. Many times, it's my own thoughts keeping me stagnant and separated from the abundant life in their feeble attempt to keep me "safe and secure". I am learning to question these thoughts and release them in order to find the quiet, still place where God waits for me to come and abide in His amazing love. God's love has been described as a flood, a consuming fire, and like the ocean...None of these are stagnant! Questioning my own judgements of the world leads me to a place of stillness and presence. In that stillness, abiding where God's love and life flow freely, I find my heart gains the strength and courage to open and love boldly.
May you find the mind-blowing peace of the present moment today and the courage to boldly love what is.
All my love from the farm to you,
~L
